Vitamin B-12 (cobalamin) is a vitamin your body needs. A B-12 injection is usually given into a muscle. Some people use B-12 shots when a clinician has found low B-12, when there is a reason they may not absorb B-12 well (certain medications, digestive conditions, or older age), or when they may not get enough from food (a vegan diet). Jenny Brady, MSN, RN, CPNP, PMHS reviews your health history and medications before giving an injection. B-12 injections are not a weight-loss treatment.
